‘Happy Passover, I guess’: Twitter responds to Sean Spicer’s Hitler comments
White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer continues to face a backlash for his comparison of Adolf Hitler to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad during a press conference.
During a regular White House briefing, the Press Secretary criticised Assad and his suspected use of sarin nerve agent against Syrian civilians last week, saying Hitler never used chemical weapons against his own people.
“You had someone as despicable as Hitler who didn’t even sink to using chemical weapons,” he said, comparing Assad to the Nazi leader.
Mr Spicer has already apologised for his remarks, saying: “Frankly, I mistakenly used an inappropriate and insensitive comment about the Holocaust and there is no comparison. For that I apologise. It was a mistake to do that.”
Spicer apologies for Hitler comment
Despite the swift apology, people continue to post their reactions on social media, including one from the Anne Frank Centre calling for Mr Spicer’s immediate removal from his position.

Sean Spicer should be fired for saying Hitler did not use chemical weapons on “his own people.” You mean 6 million Jews don’t count?

You know it’s bad when Alex Jones says, “What the hell is that from Sean Spicer?” pic.twitter.com/VeHXEhCu8V

Sean Spicer refers to concentration camps as “Holocaust Centers”. Next, he’ll be addressing the Japanese Summer Camps…

Even Hitler didn’t have press conferences as bad as Sean Spicer.

Sean Spicer called gas chambers holocaust centers. Unfortunately, around 6 million Jews & 5 million Non-Jews had their memberships expire.

So Sean Spicer just said “Even Hitler didn’t use chemical weapons” Might want to fact check that one #HappyPassover

I may offer a PR course, which is just one hour of students repeating over and over: “We will not mention Hitler. We will not…”

The positive lesson here is that you will not, ever, be as bad at your job as Sean Spicer is at his. Use that to buoy you on this fine day.

During his apology, Mr Spicer clarified that he was trying to speak specifically about Assad allegedly dropping sarin nerve agent unexpectedly on towns of innocent civilians, and not Hitler’s use of gas chambers.
“[Hitler] brought them into the Holocaust centers, I understand that. But I’m saying in the way that Assad used them, where he went into towns, dropped them down, to innocent — into the middle of towns, it was brought… so the use of it, I appreciate the clarification, that was not the intent,” he said.
Regarding the public’s calls for the Press Secretary’s immediate dismissal, the White House is yet to respond.
